LYNN – The top-ranked team in the state showed exactly why it is the envy of most high school programs in Massachusetts on Tuesday at Manning Field.Everett racked up 381 yards of total offense and forced Lynn English into six turnovers en route to a commanding 46-0 win in the Division 1A semifinals. The Crimson Tide (12-0) will play Lincoln-Sudbury on Saturday (TBA) for the Super Bowl championship.Click here for a photo gallery.”That was just a good old-fashioned butt-kicking,” English coach Peter Holey said. “They are the best in the state and they showed it (Tuesday). We had to play mistake-free football and we didn’t do that. And teams like them take advantage of that.”The Bulldogs (9-3) were without the services of starting quarterback Jermaine Kelly, who did not start because of an injured right knee and was mostly ineffective in the two series he played during the second quarter. Malcolm Brown-Simpson stepped in behind center but he was harried by a swarming Everett defense from the get-go.”Malcolm really did the best he could,” Holey said. “We were just simply overmatched.”The Crimson Tide wasted little time in asserting its power as Jonathan DiBiaso hit Jakkarie Washington for a 65-yard gain to the English seven. Following a penalty, Kenny Calaj went 12 yards to the end zone and Everett led 7-0 just 50 seconds in.English’s Josh Batista promptly fumbled the ensuing kick and the Tide took over at the English 11. Two plays later, DiBiaso tied his state record of 43 touchdown passes on a 10-yard fade to Jalen Felix. The PAT was blocked to keep it 13-0.The Bulldogs finally took the field on offense moments later but that lasted only three plays as Brown-Simpson was picked off by Luben Figaro at the English 48. Everett then marched down the field in 10 plays with Vondell Langston’s three-yard run capping the drive for a 21-0 lead after a quarter following Calaj’s 2-point conversion.”We knew what we were in for,” Holey said. “We couldn’t afford to turn the ball over and certainly couldn’t spot them 14 points. They’re running downhill from there.”The Bulldogs seemed to settle down after the haymakers by Everett and sacked DiBiaso three times in the second quarter to bring their fans to life. But any momentum gained died when P.J. Dorsey fumbled and the Tide recovered at the 34.One play later, Langston rumbled down the right sideline for a 28-0 lead with 3:46 left in the half.Kelly came in to try and kick start the English offense on the next series but four plays gained eight yards and led to a turnover. DiBiaso then broke his own single-season TD record with a 28-yard toss to Washington.”Normally you wouldn’t do something like that as a coach,” Holey said. “But we needed to try and spark something but it didn’t happen.”The Crimson Tide weren’t done yet as they stopped English at the Everett 41 with 1:03 left in the half and turned it into a 40-0 lead following a 56-yard pass to Jaylen McRae and a one-yard plunge by Mike White.Backup quarterback Lukas Denis capped the scoring for the Tide with a 21-yard run on Everett’s first series of the second half.
