After getting hammered by Winthrop on Saturday, the Lynn Jets had to hit the road again Wednesday to face a Somerville team that sported a 7-1-1 record. But led by two goals from Mark Brazell and 25 saves by Mike Gately, the Jets grabbed a much needed 4-0 win.”To win on the road is a big step for this team,” Lynn coach Joe Conlon said. “That’s a couple times now that we’ve gotten points against D2 teams. That only helps us in the second half of the year.”Lynn (5-4-1) jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead on unassisted goals from Kyle Devin and John Finnigan. Brazell scored in the second, assisted by Finnigan and Ryan MacDonald, and again off a MacDonald assist in the third.”We’ve been getting off to good starts lately and that’s been the key,” Conlon said.St. Mary’s 4, Matignon 2At Stoneham Arena, the Spartans (10-1-1) aren’t messing around here. With the win, they became the first hockey team in the state to qualify for the state tournament, according to coach Mark Lee.St. Mary’s peppered Matignon goalie Ryan Clement with 44 shots to the Warriors 12, but Clement was on his game.”He made some unbelievable stops,” Lee said.Tim Aylward had a pair of goals for the Spartans with Jordan Manthorne and Andrew Markham accounting for the other two. Marblehead goalies Aly Hopkins and Sabrina Doughman each made 4 saves.Marblehead got goals from Ally Healy (2), Brittany Smith and Rachel McKay.
