SAUGUS – Anna Strasnick, owner of Goodfellas Doggy Daycare in Saugus, said she?s hoping to open her new boarding and training facility this spring after the Board of Selectmen voted unanimously Tuesday night to approve a special permit.?There?s a 20-day appeal process,” said Strasnick. “We?re probably going to be starting some work in there the end of February or the beginning of March. Right now it?s just a vacant building.”Strasnick said Goodfellas, which will be located at 20 Thresher St. next to The Barn Car Wash, will feature a swimming pool, an outdoor area and treadmills, and will give dog-owners a unique service that they won?t be able to find at a chain store like PetSmart or Petco.?We have a couple of things going for us that other places don?t have, especially with PetSmart up the street,” said Strasnick. “They don?t have an outdoor area and they certainly don?t have a pool, and we?re going to be doing some treadmill training.”Strasnick and her business partner Gary Mozuch will also offer an extensive training course. She said Mozuch is a Massachusetts State Trooper K-9 trainer and has been training police dogs for 18 years. This will be Strasnick?s first foray into the doggy daycare business, but as a dog-owner herself (she has two golden retrievers and a basset hound), Strasnick said she can?t imagine a better way to spend her day.?I?m mildly concerned about the economy, but I think we have something that people not only want, but people need. My dogs are my kids and I don?t think I?m the only one who feels that way. I think people want to do right by their dogs and this is a good way to do that. Dogs need jobs and something to do during the day, and Goodfellas is going to take care of that for people. Every dog that comes in the door is going to be like our own dog.”The Board of Selectmen also unanimously voted for a pair of different permits Tuesday night, one for a shiatsu massage kiosk at the Square One Mall and another for a new bakery called Precious Moments Bakery and Cafe. The board will meet again this Saturday at 9 a.m., in a rare weekend meeting to give residents a chance to say what qualifications they want to see in a new Town Manager.?A lot of people that came to that meeting last week didn?t get up and speak,” said Board of Selectmen Chairman Scott Crabtree. “I think they were a little intimidated by the cameras and all that so I?m thinking Saturday we?ll do it a little more informal and not film it so we can have more of a roundtable, and people can have a discussion. A lot of people don?t like to get up and speak especially if they know they?re going to be on TV.”Matt Tempesta can be reached at [email protected].
