REVERE – A Revere man is in the hospital and facing charges after Massachusetts State Police say he struck a trooper with his motorcycle on Route 1 early Sunday morning and then crashed into another vehicle in Everett after fleeing. The incident began at 12:14 a.m. while State Trooper Patrick Candeliere was patrolling Route 1 south in Revere in a marked cruiser when he was rear-ended by a motorcycle while traveling near Route 16, according to a press release from State Police spokesman Dave Procopio. The release said both vehicles pulled over to the breakdown lane and after a conversation with the motorcycle operator, Candeliere determined a need for emergency medical response. However, the driver of the motorcycle, identified by police as Jorge Palma, 24, of Revere, abruptly fled the scene on the bike, and, in doing so, struck Candeliere, causing minor injury to the trooper’s legs, said the release.Four minutes later, the release said several callers reported a crash between a motorcycle and a car at Union and Malden streets in Everett. After the State Police arrived, they determined it was the same motorcycle that had struck Candeliere.Palma was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston with serious injuries while Candeliere was treated at Whidden Memorial Hospital in Everett and released with minor leg injuries, said the release. The release stated that Palma will be charged with operating a motor vehicle after revocation of driver’s license, operating an unregistered and uninsured motor vehicle, leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident involving personal injury and failure to stop for police. Palma also is the subject of a warrant charging him with being a habitual traffic offender, said the release. The released said Palma is still in the hospital and his arraignment will be determined based on his medical condition. No further information was available as of Monday night.
