SAUGUS – The Saugus Board of Selectmen voted to suspend the liquor license for Buffalo Wild Wings for two days, to be held in abeyance for one year, Tuesday night after police say they found customers drinking there past 2 a.m.Saugus Police officer Daniel Wing told the board that at 2:04 a.m. on Sunday, April 22, he saw people in the restaurant drinking. Upon going in he said a waitress seated at a table said, “Get out now, I’m about to get fired.”Wing said he also saw a female drinking from a wine glass and a gentleman drinking out of a bottle of beer, and noted other patrons moved at a quick pace to the front door and left.Joel Dover, regional manager, acknowledged that his staff “broke the law” and said he took full responsibility because he failed to communicate Saugus’ rules and regulations properly.”It’s our job to communicate that to the entire team and we didn’t do that in this case, and that was a mistake,” said Dover.Dover also acknowledged that it has been hard to get customers out of the restaurant since moving its last call to 1:30 a.m. after Buffalo Wild Wings had its hours increased to 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday in February. He also said he added Saugus’ policy and procedures to its Massachusetts handbooks, and had every employee read and sign the procedures after a store-wide meeting, and said they’ve since moved last call to 1:15 a.m.Selectmen Chairman Michael Serino thanked Dover for “stepping up to the plate and taking responsibility,” while Vice-chairman Steve Castinetti said it appeared management now had a better grasp of things. The suspension will only kick in if there is another violation. The board also approved a license for a new frozen yogurt store in the Square One Mall called Yo Passion and granted a permit to Kelly’s Roast Beef to serve from its drive-thru until 3 a.m.Matt Tempesta can be reached at [email protected].
