SWAMPSCOTT – Swampscott police and fire responded to a tree that had fallen on the home at 57 Buena Vista St. at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Friday. The tree on the sidewalk outside the home leaned and crashed to the ground without warning into homeowner Vladimer Kondratev’s driveway, dragging a power line and smashing the dashboard and a front window of the home, according to Captain Graham Archer of the Swampscott Fire Department.Kondratev’s brother, Sergey Korsunskiy, who lives a couple of streets over, said no one was hurt and there wasn’t much damage inside the home.Korsunskiy said he thinks the tree fell because part of it was dead. “Last year when there was a big hurricane, there was no problem,” he said.National Grid arrived at the scene to cut the power from the line so it could be removed, which temporarily disabled the electricity in just Kondratev’s house and one other behind it. The Department of Public Works took a saw to the tree and removed it in sections after backing the car out of the driveway.Korsunskiy estimated the damage will cost “a couple thousand dollars.”Kait Taylor can be reached at [email protected].
