In the newly christened Peter Sawin Natatorium, English came away with cross-city bragging rights over Classical, earning a 102-83 victory on Tuesday.Sawin, who coached all three Lynn public high school swim teams (Classical, English and Tech), died in 2002. The part of the Tech building that includes the Tigers’ pool was dedicated in his honor earlier this year.In the first meet of the season for both teams, the Bulldogs were led by the brothers Bruno. Captain Mike Bruno won in the 200 freestyle (2:19.28) and the 100 butterfly (1:05.84). Meanwhile, Matt Bruno won in the 100 freestyle (59.97). Leading the way for Peabody were Alex and Maria Strakowsha. Alex won in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.88) and the 200 IM (2:22.83) while also anchoring the 200 medley team of Patrick Jwanowski, Christine Shea, and Zack Melville (2:00.56); and the winning 400 freestyle team included Melville, Shea, and M. Strakowsha (4:09.90).Maria Strakowsha won in the 100 freestyle (1:00.69) and also anchored the winning 200 freestyle team of Jwanoski, Nina Pappcostas, and Melville, (1:52.08).Also winning for Peabody were Melville, 100 butterfly (1:15.60); Shea, 200 freestyle (2:12.89) and 500 freestyle (5:59.27); Jwanoski, 100 backstroke (1:16.05); Paige Hayward, diving (142.95).The Big Blue had three swimmers who placed second in multiple events. Earning points for Swampscott were Mark Karmen, 200 freestyle (2:16.36) and the 500 freestyle (6:01.65); Emily Guo, 200 IM (2:42.01) and 100 butterfly (1:15.43); and Erin Cassidy, 50 freestyle (29.79) and 100 freestyle (1:07.14).Marblehead 112, Landmark School 73At the Lynch-van Otterloo YMCA, Marblehead got wins in multiple events from Zach Michaels and Sophie Zmetrovich. Michaels won the 100 freestyle (57.30) and the 100 breaststroke (1:21.84). Meanwhile, Zmetrovich not only won the 100 backstroke (1:11:11), but also was on the winning 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay teams.The winning 200 medley relay (2:00.28) and the 400 freestyle (4:08.62) relay teams also included Sara Daher, Kylie Cronin, and Tyler Phillips.Also winning for Marblehead were Harrison Rodts, 200 freestyle (1:59.78), Daher, 200 IM (2:23.28); Cronin, 500 freestyle (6:02.80); and Phillips, diving (225).Danvers 100, Revere 77At Revere, Josh Mentzar won two individual events and swam for two winning relay teams to lead the Falcons in their road meet win.
