BOSTON — The Coast Guard confirmed that it found the submerged wreckage of the missing fishing vessel Foxy Lady II at around 11 a.m. Friday off of Provincetown, according to a press release from the Coast Guard.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, Massachusetts Marine Environmental Police received multiple reports of fishing vessels becoming entangled on an underwater obstruction while trawling in areas between Provincetown and Cape Ann, said the release.
Coast Guard Sector Boston investigators, along with assistance and equipment from Massachusetts Marine Environmental Police, began to assess the seabed, and the vessel was located with the use of an underwater camera and confirmed to be the Foxy Lady II, said the release.
According to the release, the Foxy Lady II and its two crewmembers were reported overdue on Dec. 17. The vessel’s escape pod was found washed up in Rumney Marsh in Saugus on Dec. 18. After a multi-day, multi-agency effort by aircraft, cutters and rescue lifeboats, the Coast Guard’s active search and rescue operation was suspended having not located the vessel or crew, said the release.
Coast Guard Sector Boston investigators are currently working closely with state and local agencies to further investigate the area and will thoroughly assess the findings as a part of the incident investigation, said the release.
