LYNN – A Florida woman is in jail on kidnapping and cocaine trafficking charges after Lynn and State Police brought her back from St. Petersburg Thursday, according to police reports.Eva Elizabeth Martin, 45, of 621 99th Ave., St. Petersburg, Fla., had been missing from Lynn with her 8-year-old daughter since early November, according to documents from Lynn District Court.Court documents state that Martin had outstanding warrants for cocaine trafficking, parental kidnapping and failure to attend jury duty.Lynn District Court Judge James LaMothe ordered Martin held on $10,000 cash bail at her arraignment on Friday.Lynn Police could not provide an update on the daughter on Friday.According to police reports, the child’s aunt filed a missing persons report at the Lynn Police station on Nov. 6 after she told police the child’s sister picked her up at their home on High Rock Street that morning and did not return.The aunt told police that after looking for the sister that night, she went home and found a hand-written note and an application for guardianship with photocopied photographs and bank statements written by Rosemary Martinez, an alias used by Martin.She went on to tell police she recognized the handwriting and said it made reference to Martin “coming back and getting what’s hers.” The aunt told police she did not think the child was in danger but was concerned that Martin no longer had custody of the child.The woman also told police Martin “had not been around in several years” due to outstanding warrants and fled to Florida.Police found the child’s sister at work in Peabody that same night and asked her where the child was. The woman told police the child was “with my mother.” She told police she went to High Rock Street and picked up the child so Martin and her daughter could spend the day together. The daughter returned her back home later in the night. She told police the next day started the same except that was the last time she saw the 8-year-old.Martin’s daughter provided police with several phone numbers for her, and according to court records, the United States Marshalls tracked three phones Martin may have been using.Police from the Pinellas Country Sheriff’s Office in Florida arrested Martin and on Dec. 11 she signed a waiver of extradition.Martin was sent to MCI-Framingham and is due back in court on Feb. 28.Matt Tempesta can be reached at [email protected].
