LYNN – A Marblehead man already facing child pornography charges, was arrested on child rape and additional child-pornography charges after police said sexually-explicit pictures of the man and a young girl were recently posted online.Raymond Depaula, 39, of 23 Puritan Road, Marblehead, was arrested and charged with aggravated rape of a child under 16; indecent assault-and-battery on a child under 14; disseminating child pornography; and posing a child for sexual photographs; on Thursday. The Department of Homeland Security reported to Marblehead Police that new pictures in regards to an open child-pornography case were posted online June 6, according to a report by Marblehead Police Sgt. Sean Brady. The images showed Depaula performing sexual acts on a prepubescent female and showed Depaula and the girl in various states of nudity and in sexual situations, according to police.Police executed a search warrant at the Puritan Road home Thursday.Depaula at first denied he had ever been sexually involved with a child and “would never touch a child in that way,” according to Brady. But Brady and Marblehead Police Sgt. Sean Sweeney reported Depaula, when presented with the photographic evidence, admitted that he took the photos and that he was the man in the pictures.Depaula said that the pictures were taken a few years ago and that the incident happened once, according to Brady’s report. Depaula told police the victim was six years old at the time.Depaula also told police he was under the influence of alcohol and marijuana at the time of the incident so could not definitively answer some questions, according to Brady.Police reported they recovered a Canon camera from Depaula’s home which was the same make and model of the camera believed to be used to take the pictures.Depaula denied posting the images, however, according to police.Depaula claimed somebody must have taken the SD card from his camera, posted the images and then returned the card to the camera without [Depaula] knowing, Brady said.Depaula said “he only uploaded the images from his camera to his computer and then deleted them at a later time,” Brady reported.DePaula was held without bail for court Friday morning. A spokesperson for District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett could not confirm the result of the arraignment when reached Sunday evening.Depaula was previously arrested for weapons violations, possession of Class D drugs and possession of child pornography.Depaula’s attorney in that matter said Sunday that he could not comment on the new charges as he had not represented his client at Friday’s arraignment.Cyrus Moulton can be reached at [email protected].
