SWAMPSCOTT – Community organizations will be taking a bigger role than before at the third annual Swampscott Classics By the Sea Car Show Sunday at Linscott Park. The event will provide local car enthusiasts an opportunity to unveil their Thunderbirds and Ferraris just as before, but also for the town?s elementary school Parent Teacher Organization and the high school?s sailing team to sell food like chili, pizza, slush and lime rickey?s to attendees for their own benefit, said Recreation Director Danielle Strauss.?It has a nonprofit feel tied into a community-based car show,” said Strauss. “It was originally just a fun event, but this year the proceeds go back into paying for the event and toward nonprofit groups.”Strauss said the event has drawn residents from all over the North Shore in years past, especially from local car clubs. This year Strauss is expecting about 150 to 200 cars on the lawn at Linscott Park, which she added, could be an opportunity for great patronage at downtown businesses.?It?s a good venue,” said Strauss. “It?s on the water and it?s pretty, as long as there?s sunshine.Strauss is hoping to continue hosting community-based organizations at Linscott Park, with ideas in the works for a concert series for next summer. “It?s kind of been my mission for three years,” she said.
