LYNN – A judge found a city man who allegedly tried to murder his roommate using a broken beer bottle to be dangerous and ordered the defendant held in lieu of $2,000 cash bail.Humberto Lopez, 39, of 63 Washington St. #2, was arrested and charged with mayhem, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon; armed assault to murder; and assault and battery.Lopez pleaded not guilty to the charges at his arraignment in Lynn District Court Oct. 24, but was held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing.Police responded to a call of a man down on Henry Avenue early on Oct. 23 and found two men giving first aid to the alleged victim, according to police.The alleged victim told police he had awoken to his roommate, Lopez, screaming. Lopez then allegedly attacked the victim, stabbing the alleged victim repeatedly with a beer bottle and screaming that he would kill the alleged victim.Police reported being “immediately overwhelmed with a horrific scene” when they went to the apartment and then found Lopez in the basement.Judge Ellen Flatley found Lopez to be dangerous at the dangerousness hearing on Oct. 31, and she ordered him held on $2,000 cash bail, according to court documents. Flatley also set conditions of release, should Lopez post bail, including that Lopez not drink and submit to random alcohol tests, according to court documents.
