LYNN – A city man remains held without bail from an October incident where police said the man violated a restraining order by attacking his wife with a wooden board and then returned to the home the next day to get the family to watch him drink battery acid.”The witness stated that at approximately 6:50 p.m. he received a cell phone call from (the defendant) who asked him to have all the family members come outside to see what he was going to do,” Lynn Police Officer Michael Hanlon wrote in a report. “The witness ? stated as he looked outside the dining room window he observed (the defendant) drinking a liquid from a clear plastic container which he thought could be poison.”Chon Danh, 53, of 272 Maple St. #2, was charged on a warrant for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon; violation of an abuse-prevention order; and assault and battery. He was arraigned on the charges last Wednesday in Lynn District Court where a plea of not guilty was entered on his behalf.Police responded to the Maple Street address on Oct. 15 and found the alleged victim with severe swelling to the right side of her face, a bloody lip and swelling on her head, Lynn Police Officer Michael White wrote in a report.A witness told police Danh came upstairs when he dropped the witness off at the apartment and Danh began arguing with the alleged victim, according to the report. Police noted the alleged victim has an active restraining order against Danh. Police said the witness reported seeing Danh grab a 3-foot-long 2×4 and charge at the alleged victim, hitting her approximately eight times in the face and in the back of the head with the wooden board.Danh allegedly then punched the alleged victim in the face before fleeing in his car.Police returned to the address the next day and found Danh lying on the ground and in medical distress after ingesting liquid in a container labeled as battery acid, police reported.The witness told officers he was able to knock the container of liquid from the defendant’s hand and the defendant fell to the ground, and Danh was taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries, according to the report.Danh agreed there was probable cause for him to be held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing at his arraignment last week, according to court documents. Judge Antoinette Leoney also approved a mental-health evaluation, according to court documents.The dangerousness hearing was scheduled for Tuesday but was continued until Feb. 14.
