LYNN – Attorneys again remained silent about the circumstances of a fatal stabbing last week, suspending bail arguments to agree the defendant be held on $25,000 cash bail.Shane Dennis, 39, of 41 Cowdrey Ave., was arrested and charged with murder at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. He pleaded not guilty to the charge at his arraignment in Lynn District Court later that day.Officials have released few details on the homicide, and attorneys have not yet presented facts of the case in open court. Essex Assistant District Attorney Mark Byron and Defense Attorneys John Valerio and Fred McAlary Jr. agreed at the arraignment that Dennis would be held without bail until a bail hearing Monday and that court files be impounded. But police and EMS responded to 10 Fayette Court at 8:46 p.m. March 4 on the report of an assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, according to the Lynn Police Log.Essex District Attorney Spokesperson Carrie Kimball-Monahan said the following day that a 46-year-old man believed to be from Lynn was stabbed at that time on Tuesday. The man was taken to Salem Hospital where he died of his injuries, Kimball-Monahan said. She said Monday that officials have still not yet identified the deceased’s next-of-kin, citing this as the reason for impounding the court files.Neighbors and relatives of neighbors described 10 Fayette St. as a crack house: 10 to 20 residents regularly “squat” at the home, there are frequent late-night fights at the property, taxis come and go at all hours and police have responded to the home for overdoses and trash is strewn about the home and yard.Police have told residents they are trying to get the owner – who is believed to live in Florida – to better control the property and its tenants.Details of the homicide remained under wraps Monday.Rather than argue bail, attorneys agreed that Dennis would be held on $25,000 cash bail and, should he post that bail, that the defendant be monitored by GPS. Judge James Wexler accepted the recommendation and scheduled Dennis to return to court April 1.A member of Dennis’ family declined to comment at the courthouse.
