LYNN – A judge ordered a city man held without bail Wednesday after police said the defendant robbed a man by loosing a pit bull at the victim.”I could observe (the alleged victim) was suffering from injuries such as severe lacerations to the face, nose and lip,” Lynn Police Officer Nick Woodbury wrote in a report.John Dorceus, 24, of 41 Lover’s Leap Lane #2, was arrested and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon; and armed robbery; at 4:35 p.m. Tuesday. He was arraigned on the charges Wednesday in Lynn District Court where a plea of not guilty was entered on his behalf.Police reported responding at 3:19 p.m. Wednesday to the area of 96 New Park St. on the report of a possible past robbery and a victim who was bitten by a pit bull.Police met the alleged victim, a 31-year-old city man, who said through a witness translator that he (the defendant) was walking to the New Park Street address when a man approached him “in an aggressive manner” and walking a gray-and-white pit bull, police reported.The alleged victim told police the man, later identified as Dorceus, demanded money and then the dog lunged and attacked (the alleged victim), according to the report. The alleged victim said Dorceus stole $100 and his cellphone then walked toward Boston Street, according to police. The alleged victim then allegedly saw a friend and another person on the street and yelled that he had been robbed by Dorceus. The witness allegedly followed the defendant to a Forest Street home and retrieved the cellphone and then called police.The alleged victim and the two witnesses each said they could positively identify the defendant, and one witness directed officers to a Forest Street residence where the witness said Dorceus sells crack, according to police.A resident of the Forest Street residence subsequently directed officers to the Lovers Leap home where police found Dorceus, police said. Officers reported the alleged victim and witnesses positively identified Dorceus as the suspect.”Dorceus … only commented he had no clue what was going on,” police reported. “He claimed he was just sleeping.”Essex Assistant District Attorney Andrew Boyd requested Dorceus be held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing. Court-appointed Defense attorney Arthur Carakatsane requested a continuance so the public defender’s office could prepare for the hearing.Judge Ellen Flatley ordered Dorceus held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for June 17.
