LYNN – A judge ordered a city man held without bail Monday after a woman told police the defendant attacked and strangled her to the point where she blacked out.James T. Mulloy Jr., 42, of 50 Millard Ave., pleaded not guilty Monday in Lynn District Court to a charge of assault to murder in connection with a July 2 incident.Police responded at 9:21 p.m. on that date to a Perkins Street address where a 38-year-old woman was visibly upset, shaking and crying, Lynn Police Officer Michael White wrote in a report.The alleged victim told police she returned home from work and Mulloy was watching their children. Both children allegedly asked if Mulloy could spend the night, and the alleged victim told officers she asked Mulloy to join her for a serious conversation.”At this time Mulloy charged at (the alleged victim) grabbing her by the neck and slamming her on the couch,” White reported. He said the alleged victim said she couldn’t remember if she was choked or strangled. “She stated … it happened so fast but he got his finger caught in my earring and it really hurt but I can’t remember, I blacked out.”The alleged victim told police she came to after Mulloy let go of her neck, but she was pinned to the couch and couldn’t move. Mulloy allegedly eventually let her go but fled when she said she was calling police. Police noted red marks on the alleged victim’s neck and other injuries.Essex Assistant District Attorney Erin Bellavia requested Mulloy be held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing. Public defender Alice Jayne requested a continuance until Thursday to prepare, according to court documents.
