REVERE – The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) said an estimated 100 to 150 structures were damaged, and about 3,000 customers are without power in Revere after a tornado touched down in the city Monday morning. But there have been no reported injuries.MEMA issued a situational awareness statement at 2 p.m. Monday, citing information from the Department of Public Safety and the Department of Public Utilities. This statement details much of the cleanup efforts from the tornado, which occurred as a band of severe thunderstorms moved through the area between 9 and 10 a.m. Monday.The Department of Public Safety said there are two groups of inspectors performing rapid building damage assessments, and that most structural damage appears to be residential roofs damaged by wind. Damage was also reported on Cronin Skating Rink and city hall.”Currently the estimate is between 100 and 150 damaged structures; many downed trees and power lines,” the statement read.Revere Police, Fire and Department of Public Works are on scene along with the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation.National Grid has cut power to affected areas in and around Revere Beach Boulevard, and there are approximately 3,000 customers in the city without power as of 2 p.m.Thirty-five crews are currently in the city to address all the wire-down calls, according to the statement.Meanwhile, the Revere Police department is reminding residents to avoid downed power lines and assume that all downed power lines are live.
