LYNN – A judge ordered $10,000 cash bail and that a homeless city man be held for a probation violation hearing after police said the man robbed the Eastern Bank on Market Street just before noon Wednesday.John P. Hudson, 47, homeless of Lynn, was arrested and charged with armed robbery; and intimidate to steal from a depository; at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday.He was arraigned on the charges Thursday in Lynn District Court where a plea of not guilty was entered on his behalf.Police responded to the Eastern Bank at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday on the report of a robbery, and officers reported a white man had just left the bank and was heading up Andrew Street and taking off his clothes, according to Lynn Police Officer Ryan Dulong.A teller at the bank reportedly told police a white man with scruffy facial hair, blond/grayish short hair, and a dark blue or black sweatshirt pulled up around his head had walked in the bank’s front door and directly to her window.”He went to the window and stated ?give me $500, no, make that $800, don’t make me shoot you, I don’t want to hurt you,'” police said the teller reported.The teller said the robber held his hand under his shirt like he had something under his clothes or at his waist, police reported.The man allegedly walked out the door with $850.Another bank employee told police the same account.Police stopped a man in front of 498 Essex St. who matched the suspect description and was later identified as Hudson. The teller positively identified Hudson as the robber, according to police.Essex Assistant District Attorney Erin Bellavia requested Hudson be held on $25,000 cash bail, saying the defendant had a five-page criminal record with 15 defaults and committed sentences for firearms and assault charges.A probation officer also requested Hudson be held for an alleged probation violation.”There’s no question he’s had some issues with the criminal justice system over the years,” public defender Tom Pierce said.But Pierce noted police did not find any weapon on Hudson or at the scene, and there was no confirmation a weapon was used during the alleged incident.Pierce said Hudson was “squarely indigent” and dependent on disability because of bipolar disorder. Pierce requested $500 cash bail.Judge James Wexler ordered Hudson held on $10,000 cash bail and to stay away from the Eastern Bank on Market Street. Hudson is scheduled to return to court Aug. 28.
