The Lynn English boys? basketball team geared up for Monday’s showdown with rival Lynn Classical the best way it could ? stringing together 32 minutes of strong play, resulting in an impressive 95-58 victory over visiting Beverly on Friday evening.
?Our energy was outstanding tonight,” said Bulldogs coach Mike Carr. “We played with a fast-paced tempo all game long and at times, there was no way of slowing us down. There’s still a lot of work to be done but this was a great win for us.”
English (2-0) had five players score in double figures including Anthony Silfa who poured in a game-high 20 points. Erick Rosario and Johnny Hilaire finished with 12 points each while Jordan Lark and Tommy Rijo each had 10.
Carr was able to empty the bench, with all 13 players scoring at least two points.
?It’s always nice being able to get everyone in the game, especially this early in the season,” said Carr, who lauded the Panthers (0-2) efforts as well.
?Beverly is in a bit of a rebuild mode but they’re not too far behind,” he said. “I think they’ll be right there with the rest of the conference at the end of the season.”
Gavin Sparkman scored a team-high 18 points for Beverly, who got nine apiece from Sam Traicoff and Ryan Garrity.

The visiting Spartans won behind a game-high 24 points from Dennis Bailer. John Maccaro scored 11 points in the opening 16 minutes while Luc Zikianda finished with 12 rebounds in the win. St. Mary’s, which improved to 2-0, hosts Fenway on Monday.Peabody 65, Classical 53
Eli McConney?s 13 points weren?t enough for the host Rams, who were upended by the Tanners, 65-53. Peabody got a game-high 15 points from Junior Estrella. Classical (1-1) got 12 points from Peter Mafo while Peabody (1-1) received strong contributions from Michael Raymond (13 points) and Matt Correale who hit 10 big free throws down the stretch.

A monster game from Donny Bertrand (24 points, 12 rebounds) proved the difference in the Sachems? narrow win over the visiting Vikings. A plethora of late free throws from the junior as well as a key steal from Dan Cacciola (eight points) sealed the deal. Winthrop got 14 points from Jake Chiudina.
Saugus (2-0) plays at Swampscott on Monday.
Gloucester 65, Marblehead 57
A game-high 25 points from Andrew Muniz, including 23 in the second half (five three-pointers) was too much for the Magicians to overcome, as they fell to Gloucester, 65-57. The hosts got 31 points combined from Cian Saunders (16) and Angel Perez in the loss. Dylon Appt (13 points) and John Philpott (10) hit double figures for the Fishermen.
Marblehead (2-0) hosts Winthrop on Monday (7).
Danvers 73, Swampscott 45
Devon Harris registered 27 points for the Falcons who got double-digit scoring efforts from Devon Allen (12 points) and Vinny Clifford (10) in a victory over the visiting Big Blue, 73045.

The Patriots earned a point, advancing to the championship of the Canalmen Classic at Gallo Ice Arena in Buzzards Bay. Junior Steve Noel’s second goal of the game, assisted by senior Richie Polignone, gave Revere the win. Revere (0-1-2) will meet Stoughton or tournament host, Bourne, in the title game tonight.

The Tigers came up just short, falling to host Shawsheen, 67-58, despite two wins from junior captain Nick Weston in the 200-yard freestyle (2:19.38) and the 500-freestyle in which he swam a personal best of 6:32.79.
