It was a day of dominance for the Marblehead girls? and boys? track teams on Thursday as they blew past both Winthrop and Saugus in a tri-meet held in Marblehead.
The Magician boys (5-0) cruised to an 81-5 win over Winthrop (0-4) and a 73-13 victory against Saugus (1-4). The girls (5-0) were just as dominant in a 69-17 win over Winthrop (1-3) and a 68-18 win over the Sachems (0-5).
Taking wins in both meets for Marblehead was Mitch Norcross in the high jump at 6 feet, A.J. Ernst in the two-mile race at 10 minutes, 39 seconds, Jakob Wikar (300 meters, 39.1 seconds), Oliver Jacob (600 meters, 1:33.9), Dan Marino (shot put, 43-9 ?), Jack Knight (55-meter hurdles, 9.8), Jaason Lopez (55-meter dash, 6.6) and Hillman Hollister (mile, 4:59.3).
Ian Strother won the 1,000 meters (3:04.7) for Marblehead against Winthrop. Saugus? lone win came in the 1000 (3:02.0) from Nick Monaco.
The Marblehead girls also had plenty of first-place finishes. Winning in both meets for the Magicians was Corinne Mayle in the high jump (4-10), Chloe Ferrucci (shot put, 31-9), Carlyn McGrath (55-meter hurdles, 8.7), Alyssa Nye (55-meter dash, 7.6), Olivia Eddy (300 meters, 46.3), Holly Rowe (1000 meters, 3:27.6), Lily Gillis (mile,5:58.2) and Sarah Damon (two miles, 12:36.4).
The Vikings got a first-place finish from Holly Benson in the 1000 meters (1:48.8). Saugus? Ailyn Minaya was second in the shot put (30-3 ?) and 300 meters (50.1).
BOYS? TRACK
Peabody 71, Lynn Classical 14
The Tanners (5-0) dominated from the start, winning every event but two against the 1-4 Rams. Taking the wins for Peabody were Nate Cioffi in the high jump (5-8), Marcus Vieira (shot put, 46-8 ?), Christian Cedullo (45-yard hurdles, 5.9), Henry Hernandez (45-yard dash, 5.2), Joe Farhat (600 meters, 1:35.6), Shane Braz (1000 meters, 3:01.4) and Pat Conway (mile, 5:35.5).
Classical got its wins from John Juguna in the 300 meters (42.2) and Tom Mackin in the two-mile race (10:55.3).
Danvers 47, Swampscott 40
The meet came down to the final event.
?It was a barn burner that came down to the relay,” said Swampscott coach Jeff Bartlett.
Unfortunately the Big Blue (2-3) came up just short and couldn?t close the deal against the Falcons. Swampscott had several first-place finishers, with Jack Herlihy winning the 300-meter race (41.5) and Ethan Smith winning the 600 meters (1:38.7). Oliver Daniels-Koch took first place in the two-mile race (10:58.8) and Barry Tevrow won the shot put (44-11).
Danvers (3-2) had a double winner in Zach Persson, who took the high jump (5-9) and 55-meter hurdles (8.2). Also winning for the Falcons wer John Thomas in the 55-meter dash (6.6), Thomas Brennan (mile, 2:59.6) and Kevin Hebert (two miles, 4:51.6).
GIRLS? TRACK
Peabody 74.5, Lynn Classical 11.5
It was a good day to be wearing blue and white as the Tanners (4-1) rolled to wins in every event but the 45-yard hurdles.
Cynthia Aroke was the only double winner for Peabody, taking the high jump (4-4) and 300-meter race (45.1). The other winners for the Tanners were Anna Church in the shot put (32-3), Sabrina D?Angelo (45-yard hurdles, 7.4), Macayla LaChance (600 meters, 1:47.9), Carrera Dean (1000 meters, 3:26.1), Ashley Ferragamo (mile, 5:56.7) and Lauren Barrett (two miles, 14:28.9).
Classical (3-2) had a 1-2 finish in the 45-yard dash as Devin Astucio (6.0) won just in front of teammate Agnes Bangura (6.1). Anna Wargo was second in the 45-yard hurdles (7.5).
Swampscott 44, Danvers 41
This one came down to the final relay as the Big Blue won the 4×440 relay in 4:35.4 to take the victory.
Swampscott (2-3) had a 1-2 finish in the two-mile race with Veronica Rizzo (13:04.5) and Isabella Kornitsky (13:11.1) besting the field by almost a minute. Bailey Shorr and Jessica Gambale finished in a dead heat in the 300 meters (48.9) to give Swampscott eight more points. Also winning for Swampscott were Mackenzie Faulkner in the 55-meter dash (7.6) and Miranda Nocera in the 1000 meters (3:34.1).Danv
