Coming from behind seems to be becoming more common for the Lynn Jets. Once again, coach Joe Conlon?s team found itself in an early hole on Saturday against Swampscott at Rockett Arena.
But as they?ve done in five of their last six games, the Jets rallied to score the game?s last four goals and take a 4-2 win over the Big Blue.
?It?s kind of crazy that we?ve been able to win these games and still are concerned about finding the consistency to play for 45 minutes,” Conlon said.
From the way things started, it looked like it was going to be Swampscott?s (5-9) day as they took a 2-0 lead in the first on goals from Mike Johnson and Ryan Donnelly.
The Jets (6-6-2) began their comeback in the second as Mark Brazell?s unassisted goal at 9:02 was followed by an Owen Sedille goal at 11:14 that tied the game going to the third.
It stayed that way until Brett Molea notched the go-ahead goal at 4:40 of the third, assisted by Tyler Craig and Jon Kosmas. The goal came just seconds after Jack Stafford robbed a Swampscott player from point-blank range.
Brandon Devin?s empty-net marker with 38 seconds left closed out the comeback for Lynn.
?We came out and played really well in the first period,” Swampscott coach Gino Faia said. “But Lynn never quits and they battled back and deserved the two points.”
BOYS
St. Mary?s 4, Hingham 3
The Spartans (8-5-3) nearly let two points get away in the final moments when Hingham?s Matt Egan tied the game with 1:15 remaining. But Dante Maribito had a response for St. Mary?s as he netted his second goal of the game with eight seconds left to win it.
?I was proud of the way the kids didn?t quit, especially when they tied it at the end,” St. Mary?s coach Mark Lee said.
St. Mary?s held a 2-0 lead after one period on goals from Eric Pedro and Austin Frankel but saw the Harbormen rally with a pair in the second frame to tie it at 2-2. Maribito scored in the opening minute of the third, assisted by Max McKay, to give the Spartans back the lead before the crazy finish ensued.
?We?ve been able to win some ugly games and we are competing against some good teams,” Lee said. “I like the fact that we?re getting healthy and getting better.”
Danvers 4, Saugus 3
The Falcons (8-5-2) used a pair of goals late in the first period to take a 2-0 lead before a wild second period ensued that saw the teams combine for five goals. Saugus (3-10) tied the game on tallies by Mike Sarniachiarro and Nik Straticos (two goals, assist) before Ryan Buchanan gave Danvers back the lead at 6:33 of the second.
Straticos tied the score, 3-3, with 3:53 left in the second but defenseman Steve Ganley’s goal at 12:36 proved to be the game winner as neither team scored in the third period.
Kyle Cahill and Rob Tibbetts also had goals for Danvers with Troy Fleming adding two assists.
Peabody 4, Marblehead 3
The Tanners (6-6-1) continued their stellar play by using a three-goal second period to overcome an early 1-0 deficit.
?It really was a great game,” Peabody coach Mark Leonard said. “We had a tremendous second period but both teams had some great chances.”
Marblehead (8-5-1) led 1-0 after the first on Nate Witherell?s goal before Devin Doucette, Bobby Caproni and Owen Brewster tallied second period goals to give Peabody the lead.
Danny Gienieszko scored early in the third for the Headers but Reed Foster netted the game winner with 3:52 left. Tim Kalinowski?s goal with 1:15 left cut the deficit to one.
?It was really frustrating because we were up 1-0 and then let them really dominate the second period,” Marblehead coach Bob Jackson said.
Malden Catholic 2, St. John?s Prep 2
The Eagles (8-4-1) got off to a quick start against the four-time defending Super 8 champs and held the lead twice but Lynnfield?s Matt Felipe had a response each time for the Lancers. Felipe?s second goal came late in the third period to salvage a point for MC.
Tyler Scearbo (assist to Nick Latham) and Brian Groom, assisted by Scearbo, had the goals for
