Peabody had a strong day at the Division 1 Eastern Mass. track meet Saturday at Cawley Stadium in Lowell, finishing with 51 points to take second place behind Andover (100 points). While the Tanners didn?t have any first-place finishers, they had plenty of point-earners to make up for it.
Christian Cedullo finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles (56.52 seconds) and fifth in the 100-meter dash. (11.32). Marcelo Rocha finished second in the 2-mile with a time of 9:25.26. Owen Brewster finished 13th in the 400 meters (51.76), while Riley Dowd finished 13th in the mile (4:37.61).
The 4×100 meter relay team finished third with a time of 43.38.
In the field events, Anthony Christo finished sixth in the shot put with a distance of 50 feet, 9 inches. Ariel Ayala was right behind him, finishing seventh (49-7). Ayala also finished fifth in the discus throw (150-1).
St. John?s Prep finished fourth at the Division 1 meet with 46 points and had two first-place finishers. Joe Luongo broke the meet record in the 800-meter with a time of 1:52.51. In the field events, John Long finished first in the javelin throw with a distance of 182-6.
Tom Chiappini also had a big day in the field events, finishing second in the discus (153-11) and third in the shot put (51-1). James Carnevale finished fourth in the discus (152-1).
Also for the Eagles, Tristan Shelgren finished fourth in the 2-mile with a time of 9:46.87. John Sullivan finished sixth in the 400m hurdles (58.39) and Josh Raposa finished ninth in the mile (4:35.97).
For Gloucester, Jared Marshall finished third in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.58 seconds.
Division 2
Beverly?sRoss Wahl finished seventh in the 1-mile (4:39.70) and Campbell Wood finished 10th in the 2-mile (10:07.48) at the Division 2 meet at Greater New Bedford Voke-Tech.
Salem?s Ricky Arias finished seventh in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.35 seconds.
Lynn English?s Hugh Calice was fifth in the triple jump (43-6).
GIRLS? TRACK
Division 1
Peabody finished 16th in the team standings at Lowell as Cynthia Aroke had a big day for the Tanners, finished second in the 400-meter hurdles (1:04.43) and third in the 100-meter hurdles (15.49). Amanda Andrews finished ninth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.27. The 4×400 relay team finished in fifth place with a time of 4:05.42.
Hannah Pastagal was the best finisher for Gloucester, taking second in the discus with a distance of 114-3. Olivia Lantz finished fourth in the mile (4:57.79), where Carly Curcuru finished eighth (5:28.41) and Niamh Dalton finished ninth (5:30.79). Sierra Rudolph finished sixth in the high jump with a height of 5-2.
Division 2
Julia Curtin had a great day for Beverly (14th place), finishing second in the mile (5:04.62) and sixth in the 800 meters (2:20.92). Abby Walsh finished fifth in the mile (5:14.17) and Julianna Wesley finished 10th (5:29.11). Lexi Sutyak finished fifth in the 2-mile with a time of 11:43.31. In the field events, Cassie Wahl finished third in the high jump with a height of 5-2.
Lynn Classical finished 15th (22 points), led by Anna Wargo and Agnes Bangura. Wargo finished second in the long jump with a distance of 16-7, and Bangura finished third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.56. Devyn Astuccio finished sixth in the 100-meter hurdles (16.16). The 4×100 meter relay team finished fourth with a time of 50.28.

Weston 14, Swampscott 8
The Swampscott baseball team got some solid offensive production from Ryan January and Adrian Espinal Saturday, but it wasn?t enough in a loss that will have an impact on the Big Blue in the state tournament.
Swampscott (13-7) would?ve had a chance at a first-round bye if it had beaten Weston, but now the Big Blue is just hoping for a home game to begin the tournament.
January reached base five times, going 2-for-2 with three walks. He also stole five bases and knocked in two runs. Espinal went 2-for-4 with two doubles and five RBIs.
