SAUGUS — Police Chief Domenic DiMella reports that the driver in Saturday morning’s serious, head-on crash, was arrested after turning himself in to Saugus police.
Ronald C. Jarosz, 19, of Saugus was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with personal injury; reckless operation of a motor vehicle; assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (recklessness with a vehicle, two counts, both felonies).
Jarosz was allegedly the driver of a Ford Mustang GT that crossed the double yellow line on Hamilton Street early Saturday morning, striking a Toyota SUV head-on, seriously injuring the driver of the Toyota and two passengers in the Ford.
Jarosz fled the scene and police were unable to locate him, police said. According to a statement released by DiMella, he was arrested after police spoke with his father who agreed to bring his son into the police station to surrender on Saturday afternoon.
Jarosz was booked at the Saugus Police Station and will be arraigned Monday morning in Lynn District Court.
DiMella reports that at 12:10 a.m. Saturday police and fire responded to Hamilton Street near the intersection of Seville. Upon arrival, they found that the Mustang and Toyota had collided head-on, with airbag deployment.
The woman driving the Toyota was seriously injured, and two passengers in the Ford were critically injured, with one passenger being ejected from the vehicle. The other passenger had to be extricated from the vehicle.
All three people were taken to area hospitals, police said.
Police said the investigation indicated that Jarosz lost control of his vehicle and traveled into the oncoming lane. The Ford then struck the Toyota before coming to a rest on a nearby lawn on Hamilton Street.
