PEABODY — The most extensive renovations to the Northshore Mall in more than a decade will bring two new upscale restaurants, extensive exterior updates, and al fresco patios.
The multi-million-dollar redevelopment of the mall’s dining wing will begin later this month and should be completed in April 2018, according to a press release from Simon, the real estate company that owns and manages the mall.
Bancroft & Co., a modern steakhouse, and Tony C’s Sports Bar & Grill, a sports-themed restaurant honoring Red Sox legend Tony Conigliaro, have signed on to be the centerpieces of the redevelopment and should open in the spring of 2018 as the overall renovations are completed. The announcement comes on the heels of news that P.F. Chang’s, the restaurant that opened as part of the last major renovations at the mall in 2008, will be serving its last meal on April 11.
“We are really looking forward to introducing these two popular restaurants to shoppers here at Northshore Mall, creating a dining destination that will cater to a wide variety of preferences,” said Mark Whiting, manager of the Northshore Mall. “These redevelopment plans have been in the works for some time, and we have kept the community and our shoppers’ comfort and convenience top of mind by designing an inviting atmosphere for dining and socializing both inside and out. We can’t wait to share further details of our vision, and we will be announcing the additional dining concepts in the near future.”
In addition to the two new restaurants, the renovation plans call for an outdoor stage for performances and community events, two new yet-to-be named “fast-casual” restaurants and one full-service restaurant with al fresco patio dining, new outdoor patios and landscaping, and renovated restrooms for the existing food area.

Ward 4 City Councilor Ed Charest said the upgrades to the mall will help bring money into the city and help the mall stay competitive with newer regional shopping destinations, such as MarketStreet in Lynnfield.
“Like every other business, the mall has to make changes and stay competitive,” said Charest. “It’s a good thing all over. The mall has been a good resident here in Peabody and we want the mall to be thriving. I’m glad the mall has recognized that it needs to make changes and not be stagnant.”
