Saturday at Blue Hills Regional in Canton, the Lynn Tech boys track team won the state vocational schools track championship for the first time ever.
The Tigers were led by two big relay wins, as the team of Edgar Ortega, Sebastian Ortiz, Brandon Mendez and Brandon Tuoy won the 4×800 (9:08.71) and the team of Akeem Blake, Keoni Gaskin, Steffan Gravely and Jamie James won the 4×100 relay (45.52).
Other notable finishes for Tech included Blake finising first in the high jump and third in the 100-meter dash, Ortega finishing fourth in the 2-miles, James finishing fifth in the discus, Gravely placing fourth in the 100 and fifth in the 200, and Jason Loeup placing sixth in the discus.
The girls team finished sixth overall. The 4×400 relay team of Zenyvette Gonzales, Jayden Thackson, Massa Freeman and Fraciny Lichtenberg finished third. Makalay Handley placed second in the discus and shot put, Michayla Lawrence placed second in the 100 and 200, Gonzales finished seventh in the 400 hurdles and the team of Thackson, Lawrence, Handley and Lichtenberg finished sixth in the 4×100.
