Debris covered the roadway where two cars crashed in Marblehead.

MARBLEHEAD — The driver who died after his white Mercedes crashed into a red pickup truck Tuesday has been identified as 69-year-old John Yahoodik.

Police said the Marblehead resident was speeding in his SUV as he came from Marblehead Neck just before the collision.

The two-car crash happened just before noon at the intersection of Ocean Avenue and Beach Street near Devereux Beach.

Yahoodik was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver of the truck, a 71-year-old Lynn man was taken to the hospital. Police declined to identify the second driver.

Both vehicles sustained heavy front-end damage. The accident is under investigation by Marblehead Police and the Massachusetts State Police.
