The City Council accepted the resignation of longtime City Solicitor Michael Barry on Tuesday and voted to post the job.
In a letter to the Council, Barry, 67, said he enjoyed representing the city for 33 years and made many lifelong friends on the job.
The Council’s Personnel Committee recommended interviews be set for mid November so the new city solicitor will be hired when Barry retires in January. The job pays $86,729 and Lynn residency is required.
Barry recommended they hire First Assistant City Solicitor George Markopoulos to replace him.
“I have worked with Attorney Markopoulos for more than three decades and believe he possesses the experience and knowledge to be our next City Solicitor,” Barry said in his letter.
Also on Tuesday, Mayor Judith Flanagan Kennedy presided over the promotions of three firefighters. Roger Alley was sworn in as District Fire Chief, Kevin Cronin as captain and Kevin Phipps as lieutenant.
