The Lynnfield boys soccer team inched one step closer towards clinching a berth in the state tournament with a 4-0 win over Triton.
Matt Ricciardi scored a goal in the first half to put the Pioneers up 1-0 at recess. Jon Luders, Max Sieger and Nathan Bass each found the back of the net in the second half. Jack Campbell and the defense held Triton’s offense at bay for the shutout win. The win puts Lynnfield at 7-3-2 and the Pioneers visit North Reading on Thursday night.
“We’re inching in on a state tournament spot,” Pioneers coach Brent Munroe said. “We need two more points. We have two more games this week and we have a good chance at those games. After this week we have four tough games so we’d like to get it done this week.”
GOLF
St. Mary’s 209, Cardinal Spellman 142
Luke Smith had a match-high 34 points to help lead the Spartans to yet another victory on Tuesday afternoon at Gannon Golf Course. Aidan Emmerich (33 points) and Christian Emmerich (32 points) also notched 30-point performances, while Owen McGuire and Chris Fioravanti had 28 points each. Aedon Leydon and Nick Cicolini each had 27 points.
St. Mary’s (13-2) now has a 7-1 record in Catholic Central League play. The Spartans will take on Medford this afternoon back at Gannon.
Somerville 47 1/2, Peabody 24 1/2
Scott Chaplin won his match, 7-2, from the No. 3 spot for the Tanners. Peabody’s back on the course today when the Tanners host Danvers.
Classical 45, Revere 27
Winners for the Rams were No. 1 Travis Ryan, No. 2 Tim Nerich, No. 6 A.J. Laurino, No. 7 Shawn Finnigan and No. 8 Andrew Patrie. Classical (10-2) hosts Salem on Thursday. “Salem beat us at their place earlier this year,” Classical coach Jack Morrison. “They’re having a really good year. That would be a good test and a good win for us.”
Salem 60, Malden 12
The Witches keep rolling as wins from Nick Angeramo (8-1), Tom Harrington (7-2), Ethan Doyle (8 1/2-1/2), Ryan Farley (6-3), Troy Zipper (7-2), Tim Farley (7 1/2-1 1/2), Clayton Duffin (9-0) and Casey Williamson (7-2) helped them improve to 15-1.

Lynnfield 4, Triton 1
A three-goal lead was enough for the Pioneers to push through with the victory.
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
Swampscott 27, Danvers 30
The Big Blue had five finishers in the top 10 en route to a victory on Tuesday, including the No. 1 finisher in Oliver Daniels-Koch. Patrick Doucette finished in third place, Chris Figuieredo finished in sixth place, Evan Lippman finished in eighth place and Will Fraser finished in ninth place.
Swampscott is now 4-1 this season.
Marblehead 17, Everett 44
Top three finishers of the afternoon for the Magicians were Austin Lavender, who finished first at 15 minutes and 46 seconds, and Ethan Snook and Oliver Glass, who tied for second at 15:52. The Magicians (6-1) are back at it next Tuesday at Revere.
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Danvers 38, Swampscott 20
Clara Harrington was the top finisher in the loss for Swampscott, placing third overall. Leonie Flacke finished in sixth place, Gigi Dishman finished in seventh place, Elizabeth Green finished in 10th place and Rita LaPlante finished in 12th place.
The loss drops the Big Blue to 3-2 on the season.
Marblehead 18, Everett 45
Junior Alix Livermore (17:45) and junior Kristy Twaalfhoven (17:53) took the top two spots overall to help lift the Magicians to a victory on Tuesday. Freshman Caroline Johnson finished in fourth place with a time of 18:39, while sophomore Olivia Cleary finished fifth (19:18) and sophomore Hannah Crowley finished sixth (21:10).
Marblehead (6-1) now has a full week off before it takes on Revere next Tuesday.
VOLLEYBALL
Lynn Classical 3, Somerville 1
The Rams only dropped one set en route to a solid win with set scores of 25-12, 25-20, 19-25, 25-19. Pamela Diaz and Emily Silva had huge games on the back line, with Diaz notching 24 service points, including 10 aces, and Silva recording 17 service points. Diaz also led the team on the defensive end with 28 digs. Shanelle Barry had seven kills and two blocks, Maggie McHale had five kills and one block and Skyler Crayton had four kills and one block. Yaritza Zorrilla had 15 digs in the win.
Classical (9-4) will play at Revere on Thursday afternoon.
FIELD HOCKEY
Marblehead 1, Gloucester 1
The Magicians didn’t come away with a win in Gloucester, but the tie was enough to secure a postseason tournament berth for Marblehead.
Holly Rowe scored the Magicians’ lone goal with an assist from Hadley Carlton. Alex Carlton and Josie Freedman played well on defense, while Rowe was strong in the midfield and Bel Sogoloff was solid defensively.
Marblehead hosts Saugus Thursday.
Fenwick 1, Medfield 0
Nicole Modica provided all the offense the Crusaders needed as they improved to 3-6-2 with the win. Cailyn Wesley added the assist and played well at forward, while Stephanie Steriti played well defensively and Courtney Muir was solid at midfield.
