BOSTON — Steven Veno, 55, of Revere, pleaded guilty in federal court on Thursday for failure to register as a sex offender.
Failing to register as a sex offender carries a sentence of five to 10 years in prison, up to a lifetime of supervised release and a fine of $250,000. Sentencing is scheduled for April 24.
Veno is required to register as a Level 2 sex offender in Massachusetts based on state court convictions for rape of a child in 1993. The federal Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act requires Veno to register in any jurisdiction where he lives or works.
Authorities learned that over the past several years Veno had been traveling from Massachusetts to Florida, where he lived and worked for periods of time, without registering as a sex offender in that community. He was arrested in September and has been in custody since that time.
