REVERE — There will be temporary lane and ramp closures on Route 1 in Revere and Chelsea for overnight construction beginning Friday.
The construction will continue for several more weeks on Route 1 between Sargent Street in Revere and Carter Street in Chelsea, according to a statement from Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT). The work includes the installation of a high friction surface treatment, which is part of a $2 million, multiple-location project.
Work will occur each evening between about 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. It is expected to be completed by the end of the month.
Various lanes and ramps will be closed temporarily throughout the project to allow crews to safely and effectively complete the work. Signs, traffic control devices and message boards will be used to guide drivers through the work zone. Drivers are encouraged to reduce speed and use caution while going through the area.
