REVERE — Revere resident Joseph Cole and Kearsarge Lodge 217 in Swampscott donated $1,000 to the residents affected by the Franklin Street fire on Sept. 16 that displaced more than 100 people.
Cole presented the check to Mayor Brian Arrigo for the fund, which was established by Arrigo and city councilors after the fire.
“We are overwhelmed and gratified by the public’s response to help our residents in need,” said Arrigo. “The people of Revere deserve praise for their compassion and support — it’s been amazing to see the community come together and shows how we look out for each other during difficult times.”
In addition to monetary contributions, the city has received an abundance of donations ranging from clothing and toiletries to home decorations. At this time, the city has a sufficient amount of tangible donations, said Arrigo, but checks can still be made out to the “City of Revere — Mayor’s Fire Relief Gift Account” and presented to the mayor’s office.
