The quests for state championships in football begin this weekend and 10 Item area teams will compete for the banners in their respective divisions.
It begins in Division 1 North, where the St. John’s Prep Eagles (6-1) earned the No. 2 seed. St. John’s will host No. 7 Haverhill Friday night (7).
The Peabody Tanners (3-4) earned the No. 6 seed in Division 2 North. On Friday night (7), they’ll travel to No. 3 Reading.
In Division 3 North, the English Bulldogs (6-1) earned the No. 2 seed. They’ll host No. 7 Concord-Carlisle Friday night (7:30) on the back end of a double-header at Manning Field. On the front end of the twin-bill, No. 4 St. Mary’s will host No. 5 Georgetown in the first round of play in Division 7 North Friday evening (7).
Marblehead won the Northeastern Conference outright with an undefeated regular season (7-0). The Magicians drew the top seed in Division 4 North and host No. 8 Dracut Friday night. Also, No. 6 Revere (3-4) visits No. 3 North Reading Friday night (7).
In Division 5 North, Saugus (2-5) earned the No. 6 seed. The Sachems will visit No. 3 Weston Friday night (7).
Bishop Fenwick (6-1) drew the No. 4 seed in Division 6 North. The Crusaders host No. 5 Greater Lowell Friday night (7).
There are two games scheduled for Saturday. Swampscott (6-1) drew the No. 1 seed in Division 5 North and will host No. 8 Triton at noon. In Division 8 North, Tech (5-2) earned the No. 4 seed and will host No. 5 Roxbury Charter.
The non-playoff schedule has yet to be released.
