A caller reported a flame coming from a transformer at Lafayette and Martin streets at 5:02 p.m. on Wednesday. Responding officers reported an arcing wire on the corner and requested Electric Light.
A caller reported their water heater broke on Overlook Road at 6:34 p.m. on Wednesday. They stated they were unable to shut the water off. Responding officers arrived and shut the water and gas off.
A caller reported he was driving with a friend in the passenger seat and the friend started assaulting him on Ocean Avenue at 8:17 p.m. on Wednesday. He stated he pulled over, got out, dialed 911, and started to walk away while the friend remained in his passenger seat. The dispatcher asked the caller to describe his location and he stated “near houses and trees.” He stated the altercation began after the friend went to light a “marijuana cigarette” and he tried to take it out of his hand. The friend got mad at the caller and then punched him in the face. The caller told officers he did not want to prosecute and denied any injuries.

Jose N. Bettencourt, 65, of 54 Fulton St., was arrested on Wednesday at 9:27 a.m. following a hit and run crash at 4 Centennial Drive in which a light pole was struck and charged with leaving the scene of an accident with property damage and the wanton destruction of property in excess of $1,200.
