It’s been noted recently in different media outlets that the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority has estimated it loses as much as $42 million in revenue due to the antiquated ticketing system.
How many years has the management been aware of this, and what, if any, steps are taken to fix the problem?
Talk about money down the drain.
If any company in the private sector incurred a loss of this magnitude, I am sure steps would be taken to rectify the problem.
We constantly hear about the deadlock, traffic woes and construction projects for commuters, and yet the commuters of Lynn and some surrounding communities are totally ignored.
How many state legislators beyond Lynn even know Lynn has a new ferry dock, unused? Let’s call for what it is, a white elephant.
It was built with millions of public dollars and features a paved parking lot, excellent lighting, an aluminum boarding ramp and docking platform.
MBTA management over many years neglected and paid no attention or had the foresight to see the forest for the trees, and we certainly paying the price now.
I do realize that there are many challenges for the MBTA. But the logical thing to do is address the problems, not ask for fare hikes.
Who knows, maybe Gov. Charlie Baker is waiting for the new Lynnway (market rate apartments) to be built before reconsidering ferry funding.
I welcome any comments from state officials on my opinion.
