LYNN — Sylvia VIA, a Lynn-based artist and designer, has been put in charge of creating art for the Harborside Inn boutique hotel near Boston’s Faneuil Hall.
And she’d like every North Shore-based artist to participate.
“I am beyond ecstatic about this opportunity to create art for the hotel and be on its design team. I want to share my blessings with other local artists,” said VIA, who has a studio in the LynnArts building in Central Square. She has been asked to provide 85 installations.
“I want to issue a call for artists, especially in Lynn, because some of my Lynn Classical teachers like Patty White or Mrs. Driscoll pushed me to be the best artist I could be. The corporate world needs artists. We are seeing a huge growth in the desire for art, especially in all the new developments and commercial rental properties.”
VIA said she is looking for bright images of boats, water or other nautical themes, New England landscapes, the Boston skyline, sunrises and sunsets. “The images can be abstract or realistic,” she said, adding that the artist’s age doesn’t matter. Works by photographers, artists, graphic designers, illustrators, muralists and those who work in brushed aluminum, stained glass and acrylics will be considered.
VIA said art pieces as big as 12-feet-by-18-feet will be installed in an outdoor atrium, art as big as 10-feet-by-10-feet will be installed in indoor atriums. Most of the art will be placed in guest rooms on walls and over the headboard of king and queen beds.
Those interested must provide age, name, and website and should have artwork in a PDF or Vector file, in order for images to be printed as large as needed. Artists must sign release forms in an email granting permission for the art to be used.
VIA will present all artwork to Mark Hagopian, the hotel’s owner. All final decisions will be up to him. Artists whose work is selected will be paid.
