SAUGUS — A 70-year-old woman was treated for serious injuries after she was struck by a car in Saugus Monday evening. 

Saugus Police, who were dispatched to the scene on Sweetwater Road just after 7:10 p.m., determined that the female victim — an East Boston resident — had been struck and was pinned beneath a Chevy pickup driven by a 59-year-old Saugus man. 

Police report the victim was conscious and alert when first responders arrived. She was brought by ambulance to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston to be treated for injuries that are considered serious but not life-threatening. The Chevy’s driver was not injured. 

The incident remains under investigation by the Saugus Police Department.
