SAUGUS — Tuesday’s Board of Selectmen meeting was canceled as Chair Anthony Cogliano battles COVID-19.
Cogliano, who was initially diagnosed with the virus one week before Christmas, made the call to postpone the virtual meeting to a later date after he reportedly experienced worsened symptoms earlier in the day.
In a statement provided to The Item, Vice Chair Corinne Riley wished Cogliano a speedy recovery and emphasized that residents should remain vigilant about preventing the spread of COVID-19.
“We just don’t know what this virus is going to do from one day to the next. The only way we’re going to be able to put this all behind us is if everybody follows what we need to do,” she said. “I wish (Cogliano) well, and I just want everyone to just please do the best they can to wash their hands and stay home. I know it’s repeated over and over, but we have to get through this. Otherwise, who knows how long this is going to take?”
The agenda for Tuesday’s meeting included a public hearing on amending the town’s Traffic Rules and Regulations Article V, Section 2, and a show cause hearing to deny, revoke, or suspend all licenses and permits held for failure to pay municipal taxes and fees on a number of local establishments.
The Item was not able to reach Cogliano for comment. A new date for the meeting has not yet been set.
