It seems that fatigue is not affecting the St. Mary’s girls basketball team, as the Spartans notched their fifth win in six days Monday evening with a 57-31 win over Catholic Central League foe Archbishop Williams to remain unbeaten on the season.
“We definitely can’t complain about how we’re starting games lately,” said St. Mary’s coach Jeff Newhall. “We’ve been starting fast and in our last two games we’ve outscored our opponents 50-9 in the first quarter, so we’re doing something right.”
The Spartans got a number of contributions in the win, with senior Maiya Bergdorf (13 points), senior Nicolette D’Itria (12 points), sophomore Yirsy Queliz (11 points) and Kellyn Preira (10 points) all scoring in double figures.
St. Mary’s (6-0) will host Bridgewater-Raynham, one of the top teams in the state, Wednesday evening (6).
“We scheduled this game knowing that it would be a marquee matchup this year, and we’re expecting no different Wednesday night,” said Newhall. “At the same time, we can’t let this game get any bigger than it is. We just have to come out strong like we have been over the past few games and bring our best to the floor.”
