The No. 19 Saugus baseball team survived in a 11-10 Division 3 North preliminary round win over Northeastern Conference foe No. 14 Swampscott Friday night.
The Sachems jumped on Swampscott with six early runs thanks to RBIs from Ryan Anderson and Michael Howard. Anderson also added a solo home run and Anthony Macone added a two-run homer himself to power the Saugus offense.
Nathan Ing was great on the mound, striking out four and allowing four runs on five hits before reaching his pitch count in the sixth. From there, Saugus’ bullpen did its best while Swampscott climbed back into things. Sean O’Rourke ended up with the much-needed save with the winning run on first base in the seventh inning.
For Swampscott, Jonah Cadorette laced a three-run home run and John Caponigro added a pair of RBI. Connor Correnti, Aiden Graciale and Matt McIntire each had two hits.
Swampscott finishes the season at 7-8.
Saugus (6-9) moves on to face No. 3 Boston Latin in the next round Monday afternoon (4).
BASEBALL
Division 2 North Preliminary Round
No. 17 Salem 12, No. 16 Melrose 7
Ethan Doyle and Bobby Jellison each had two RBI and two runs scored to lead Salem to the win. Reynold Fortuna also had two RBI and scored once. Jack Doyle, Jonathan Wasserman, Adryan Hernandez and Alex Paulino all had an RBI. Tommy Beauregard scored two runs.
Jellison (five innings, five runs, five hits, three walks, five strikeouts) and Robert Palacios (two innings, two runs, three hits, three walks, two strikeouts) combined for the win on the mound.
Salem (7-10) travels to Shawsheen Valley Monday (4).
SOFTBALL

Classical finishes the season at 7-5.
Division 2 North Preliminary Round
No. 14 Marblehead 4, No. 19 Bishop Fenwick 2
Pitcher Lauren Donovan earned the win, allowing one hit while striking out 12.
Marblehead’s Annika Haley (2-for-3) singled in the second inning and stole two bases while scoring on a passed ball. In the fifth, Abby Schwartz singled to right center and scored on Amelia Rogers’ (3-for-3) third hit of the game. Jolie Quintana doubled in Rogers and Ashleigh Maude doubled in Quintana.
Marblehead (8-6) moves on to the first round of the Division 2 North tournament against No. 3 North Reading Monday (4).
Fenwick finishes the season at 1-13.
BOYS LACROSSE
Division 1 North First Round
No. 6 Peabody 11, No. 11 Westford Academy 9
The Tanners came through with the first-round win thanks to four goals and an assist by senior Keenan Madden. Andrew Lucas (two goals, one assist) and Cam Collins (two goals) also had strong games. Anthony Bettencourt, Matthew Bettencourt and Tristan Ell all had a goal. Luke Buckley dished three assists while Sam Izzo and Anthony Curcio had one. Derek Patturelli had nine saves.
Peabody (12-3) heads to No. 3 St. John’s Prep Sunday (12).
Division 3 North First Round
No. 10 Bishop Fenwick 13, No. 7 Shawsheen 6
Liam Hill led the Crusaders with five goals and an assist while Manny Alvarez-Segee tacked on a pair of goals and three assists. Max Grenert had two goals and Stefano Fabiano and Aiden Anthony each had a goal and two assists. Anthony Sasso and Nick Wesley each had a goal and George Kostolias had nine saves.
Fenwick (11-6) travels to Essex Tech Monday (6:30).

Lynnfield finishes the season at 3-9.
No. 11 St. Mary’s 11, No. 3 Lowell Catholic 7
The Spartans scored the upset win behind a five-goal performance from Zach Barden. Jackson Field added three goals in the victory, while Seamus Foley scored two goals and Harrison Kinne added a goal. Daniel Domeniconi had 11 saves.
St. Mary’s (11-6) travels to No. 3 Newburyport Monday (3) for the Division 3 North quarterfinal.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Division 1 North Preliminary Round
No. 12 Marblehead 16, No. 21 Wakefield 6
Maddie Erskine carried her dominance on the field into the tournament with six goals and an assist to lead the Magicians to the win. Molly Forbes added four goals and two assists while Abby Kalinowski had two goals and four assists. Gigi Lombardi and Sydney Langton each had two goals, Lucy Wales (two assists) and Josie Poulin each had a goal and Hadley Wales had an assist. Elizabeth Driscoll had 12 saves.
Marblehead (9-4) travels to No. 5 Boston Latin Monday (4:30).

Northeast All-Conference Player of the Year and freshman Mika Garber grabbed a win in first singles (6-0, 6-1) and NEC All-Conference Daniel Farfel (6-3, 4-6, 6-3) got wins in first and third singles respectively for Marblehead.
In doubles, NEC All-Stars Thomas Dack and Aidan Ryan (6-4, 6-2) along with Kipp Schaider and Dwight Foster (6-4, 6-2) earned wins.
Marblehead (9-2) moves on to the quarterfinals Tuesday (TBD).

The Magicians stayed hot in the first round with wins from Cannan Whittier (6-3, 6-3) and Tess Keaney (6-0, 6-3) in second and third singles respectively. Emily Clough and Lauren Podgur (6-4, 7-6, 7-3) and Leah Saulnier and Ava Ulliam (6-0, 6-1) won in doubles.
Marblehead (12-2) will host No. 5 Burlington in the Division 2 North quarterfinal (TBD).
