After a year away from the diamond, the St. Mary’s softball team got back to business as usual this spring and walked away with a Catholic Central League title.
And with the CCL softball All-Stars being released this week, the hardware from the 2021 season is still rolling in.
Alyssa Grossi, Lily Newhall, Marina DiBiasio and Brooke Moloney were all selected as CCL All-Stars.
Newhall did it all for the Spartans this year, starting on the mound as the team’s ace. She threw 143 innings and racked up a 19-3 record that included three shutout victories. This season she allowed 32 earned runs on 114 hits, 32 walks and five hit batters. Newhall finished the year with 183 strikeouts.
She also got it done at the plate. Despite an 0-for-11 start, Newhall finished the year with a .367 batting average, .448 on-base percentage and a .591 slugging percentage. Newhall had 18 hits, including a home run and five extra base hits while knocking in 11 RBI.
Grossi was the Spartan’s lynchpin at the plate. She batted .485 on the year with a .571 on-base percentage and an eye-popping .911 slugging percentage. She laced six home runs and nine doubles on her way to racking up 31 RBI. Grossi also stole six bases.
DiBiasio and Moloney also had themselves some impressive offensive seasons. DiBiasio batted .385 for the season with an on-base percentage of .426 and a .564 slugging percentage. She laced a homer, had 19 RBI and stole eight bases while only striking out five times all year.
Moloney racked up 12 stolen bases for St. Mary’s and was a rock at first base, going the whole season without an error.
She batted .383 with an on-base percentage of .479. Moloney knocked in 19 RBI while drawing 18 walks and one hit by pitch.
Bishop Fenwick also had one CCL All-Star selection with sophomore Mia Mercurio making the team.
