Continuing what has been an unprecedented run of success over the last quarter century, the St. John’s Prep wrestling team captured its 24th consecutive Catholic Conference title after picking up a 62-6 win over Catholic Memorial Wednesday evening. The Eagles have now won an astounding 106 straight league matches.
The Prep got wins from Braedon Goes (106 pounds), Alex Schaeublin (113), Elias Hajali (120),Tyler Knox (126), Victor Mejias (132), Adam Schaeublin (138), Rawson Iwanicki (152), Ethan Barnes-Felix (160), Zach Richardson (180), Marc Pineiro (195) and Jack Blizard (220).
St. John’s Prep (31-0) will compete in the opening round of the dual meet state tournament Saturday (11) at Franklin High School.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Bishop Fenwick 86, Bishop Stang 56
Jason Romans had a big game to lead the way for the Crusaders, finishing with 25 points and eight steals. Che Hanks added 19 points and six assists, while Mike Yentin was right behind him with 18 points. Nick Bowers notched 13 points and five steals.
Fenwick (7-5) travels to Cardinal Spellman Friday (6:30).
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Saugus 50, Medford 45
The Sachems earned the non-conference win behind 13 points each from Fallon Millerick and Ella Castle. Jessica Bremberg and Cassie Israelson each scored six points to help in the winning effort.
Saugus (8-5) hosts Masconomet Friday night (7).
Franklin 71, Bishop Fenwick 48
The Crusaders were led by Olivia Found, who finished with 16 points, four assists and four steals in the loss. Sophomore Cecilia Kay had a double-double with 16 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks, while junior Erica Lendall had seven points and three steals.
Fenwick (8-4) hosts Cardinal Spellman Friday (6:30).
BOYS HOCKEY
Masconomet 5, Marblehead 4
The game was a 4-4 tie until the final two minutes of the period, when Masconomet was able to get the game-winning goal.
Aidan Ryan scored two goals in the losing effort, while Hayden Leveroni notched one goal and one assist. Eli Feingold added one goal, while Connor Jalbert picked up two assists. Hogan Sedky and Carter Laramie each had one assist.
Marblehead (5-6-1) plays on the road at Winthrop Saturday (1:30).
St. John’s Prep 1, St. John’s (Shrewsbury) 0
The No. 1 Eagles needed to grind out this win at Essex Sports Center, getting a late goal from Nick Brandano with five minutes to play. Johnny Tighe picked up one assist in the win.
St. John’s Prep (12-2-0) returns to the ice Sunday (12) on the road at BC High.
GIRLS HOCKEY
Marblehead 4, Gloucester 0
The Magicians got goals from Teyah Fleming, Hadley Wales, Riley Campbell and Elsa Wood in the victory.
Marblehead (6-6-0) hosts Masconomet Friday (6:30).
Andover 2, Bishop Fenwick 1
Despite leading 1-0 after two periods, the Crusaders came out on the wrong end of a road game at Breakaway Ice Center.
Lauren Diranian scored the lone goal for Fenwick, while Abbey Millman and Catherine Salvo each had one assist.
Fenwick (4-5-1) travels to Bishop Stang Saturday (2).
BOYS INDOOR TRACK
Revere 68, Lynn Classical 16
Revere 46, Somerville 40
The Patriots captured the Greater Boston League dual meet title with their two wins Wednesday. Revere got victories from Mudathir Hussein in the shot put (37-3/4) and JV Cunha in the 1000-meter (2:57.8), while Tom Desir tied for first in the high jump (5-4), Javan Close tied for first in the 50 hurdles (7.9) and Mark Marchese tied for first in the 50 dash (5.8).
The top performer for Classical on the day was Jose Cruz, who tied for first in the high jump (5-4). Nick Tinkham finished second in the shot put (35-2 1/4).
GIRLS INDOOR TRACK
Revere 52, Lynn Classical 20
Revere 43 1/2, Somerville 26 1/2
Liv Yuong was a double-winner for the Patriots, placing first in both the high jump (4-10) and the 50 hurdles (8.5). Also picking up wins for Revere were Jessie Jones in the 300 (50.2) and Fatima Hartout in the one-mile (6:42.2).
Top performers for Classical were Lily Newell in the 50 dash (fourth place, 7.6), Jastrame Pierresin in the 600 (fourth place, 2:41.9) and Joseline Mejia in the 1000 (fourth place, 4:49.7).
