School Sports Roundup: Lynn Jets hockey picks up win over East Boston

The Lynn Jets hockey team went on the road and came home with a win Thursday afternoon, picking up a 4-2 victory over East Boston in a non-conference bout at Porazzo Memorial Rink.

Devin Copithorne led the offense with two goals and one assist in the win, while Stevan Downey and Matthew Cote each scored one goal. Jaylen Porter added two assists for the Jets. 

Lynn (2-13-0) hosts St. Joseph Prep Saturday afternoon (3).

BOYS BASKETBALL

Beverly 85, Lynn Classical 49

Jadden Gonzalez scored 16 points in the loss, while Tyler Wilson scored 10 points.
Classical (6-9) hosts Medford Monday (7).

Greater Lawrence 65, KIPP 50

Junior Vic Mafo led the way with 19 points in the loss for the Panthers, while fellow junior Osaru Evbenaye added 15 points. 

KIPP (3-9) turns right around and plays on the road at Greater Lowell Friday (6:30).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Lynn Tech 57, Chelsea 20

Prior to the game, the Tigers honored their group of five seniors for their contributions to the program over the years. 

Lilly Cote led the way with 19 points, six rebounds, four steals and two assists, while Jayleen Novas added eight points, five rebounds and four steals. Dayana Hios-Edwards (seven points, four rebounds, three steals) also played well in the win, while Lesnee Izaguirre and Aliyah Volquez each scored six points. 

Tech (12-4) has a quick turnaround with a road game against Nashoba Friday (4).

Lynn Classical 55, Medford 34

The Rams followed up a tough last-second loss to rival Lynn English Tuesday night with a big win on the road Thursday. 

Molly Mannion led the offensive attack for the Rams with 14 points, while Akyiah Brown was right behind her with 13 points. Ava Thurman added 12 points in the victory.

Classical (13-4) is off until Tuesday (7), when it plays on the road at Swampscott. 

Winthrop 44, Beverly 24

Grace Fleuriel scored 11 points to lead the way in the win for the Vikings, while Julia Marcoccio put up 10 points.

“It was a great win for us,” said Winthrop coach Joe Lowe. “Good team defense and solid rebounding set the tone for us.”

Winthrop (11-6) hosts Marblehead Saturday afternoon (1).
