LYNN — Two arrested individuals and three police officers were exposed to a large amount of fentanyl while a search warrant was executed at a Michigan Avenue home Thursday afternoon, prompting a response from the state’s Hazardous Materials Emergency Response Division, police said.
Members of the Lynn Fire Department and the state’s HazMat team were still on scene at 6 p.m., five hours after the search warrant was executed at 12 Michigan Ave., Lynn Police Lt. Michael Kmiec said.
Assisting Lynn Police with the warrant investigation were the Gloucester Police Department and Massachusetts State Police. During the search, three police officers were exposed to a large amount of fentanyl and were treated at the scene. None of the officers overdosed from the substance, Kmiec said.
Police arrested two suspects, who were both taken to Salem Hospital for overdose-related treatment. Police said it appears that one of the suspects ingested fentanyl. The suspects had not been booked as of 6 p.m.; their identities and charges will be released after booking, Kmiec said.
“When you’re exposed to fentanyl, the concern is a possible overdose,” said Kmiec. “You want to ensure that the vitals are normal and you are not overdosing.”
The Fire Department and HazMat team were contacted after the two suspects were taken to the hospital. The incident is under investigation, Kmiec said.
