SWAMPSCOTT — The Swampscott baseball team shook off a slow start to dominate the rest of the way Tuesday evening, picking up an 11-4 win over Revere in a non-conference game at Forest Avenue Park.
Daniel Echavarria went 2-for-2 with a single, a double and two walks to lead the way for the Big Blue. Cam O’Brien also came up big, going 1-for-3 with a home run and a walk.
Joseph Ford started on the mound for Swampscott and earned the win, pitching 4 2/3 innings and allowing two earned runs on three hits while walking two and striking out five.
Dawson DiBarri closed out the game for the Big Blue with 2 1/3 innings pitched, giving up five hits and two runs with one walk and one strikeout.
Mikey Popp led the way for Revere, grabbing two singles on four at-bats, with Giancarlo Miro following behind by going 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in the top of the first inning.
Miro began the game on the bump for Revere, but was quickly pulled after allowing one hit, four earned runs and three walks in just the first inning. Dom Boudreau replaced Miro, tossing three innings and allowing four hits, three earned runs and one walk while striking out three. Ollie Svendson also tossed three innings, giving up three hits, one earned run and five walks and four strikeouts.
The game started off on the right foot for Revere when Miro smashed a pitch over the fence in left field to give his team an early 2-0 lead, but that lead was short-lived as the Big Blue mounted a comeback in the bottom of the first.
Matt Schroeder got the offense going with a double to left field off of the first pitch, which was then followed by three consecutive walks. Schroeder was able to cross the plate on a wild pitch for the Big Blue’s first run of the game during Connor Correnti’s at-bat which kickstarted the offense.
“We didn’t know much about our opponent; they won a good game against Medford (Monday),” said Swampscott coach Joe Caponigro. “This was our most important game of the season. We don’t look ahead; we don’t look back. Our most important game is always the game we are playing that day.”
Unfortunately for Revere, after the second inning, Swampscott dominated the rest of the way. The Big Blue scored seven more runs throughout the rest of the game, while Revere struggled to get any momentum going.
However, Revere did have a lot of positives that head coach Mike Manning certainly had high praise for.
“We ran into a really good team, but there were a lot of positives that I saw during the outing,” said Manning. “We hit some balls really hard, but unfortunately they just didn’t find holes and that happens sometimes. We got to take a look at a couple guys who haven’t had as much time on the mound, and they responded well. We’ll build off of the positives and continue to work on the things we missed in practice.”
Swampscott (2-0) is back in action on Wednesday on the road against Gloucester (4:30).
Revere (2-2) looks to bounce back on Wednesday on the road at Chelsea (4).
