LYNN — A Lynn man who allegedly struck and killed a pedestrian on Storrow Drive in Boston and fled the scene was arrested by State Police after an unidentified motorist who witnessed the accident followed the suspect to his home and then called police.

A preliminary investigation by State Police determined that Miguel Rodriguez, 36, was driving on Storrow Drive near the off-ramp to the Tobin Bridge and Interstate 93 north when he allegedly struck a pedestrian and then fled the scene around 1 a.m. Saturday. Boston Emergency Medical Services and State Police performed first aid on the man, identified as Brandon Jennings, 22, of Marlborough. However, he was pronounced dead at the scene, State Police said.

The reasons why Jennings was walking along Storrow Drive remain under investigation, police said.

A motorist driving behind Rodriguez followed him after witnessing the crash, police said. The witness followed Rodriguez to an apartment building at 65 Centre St., Lynn, and provided Rodriguez’s location and license plate number to police.

State Police “immediately” rushed to the Centre Street address and found Rodriguez walking in the parking lot. Rodriguez was allegedly holding the key to the 2007 Honda Accord implicated in the crash, and additional investigation by State Police confirmed that he was using the car, which is registered to another man, State Police said.

A State Police sergeant then administered a portable breath test to Rodriguez, which registered his blood alcohol level as .119 nearly two hours after the crash, the statement said. The legal limit in Massachusetts is .08.

Rodriguez was arrested and taken to the State Police Boston barracks. He is charged with motor vehicle homicide while operating under the influence of liquor, operating under the influence of liquor, leaving the scene of a crash that resulted in injury or death, and failure to stop or yield, State Police said.

Rodriguez is set to be arraigned in the central division of Boston Municipal Court Monday.
