U.S. Sen. Edward Markey (D-MA) has endorsed Tristan Smith for State Representative in the 8th Essex District.
“I am pleased to endorse Tristan Smith for the 8th Essex District seat in the Massachusetts House of Representatives,” Markey said. “The Statehouse needs Tristan’s kind of dynamic leadership and fresh ideas if we are going to implement the lasting solutions to the issues that matter most to Massachusetts — climate change, access to reliable transportation, a quality education. Tristan recognizes that it will be through strong federal and state partnerships that we can assure that the Green New Deal and other transformational proposals become the reality for everyone. We need state legislators who will do all they can to ensure that bold policies that create a livable future are our top priority, and I believe Tristan is the Eighth Essex District candidate who will get things done.”
“There is no greater champion for the environment than Senator Markey and I am honored that he has seen in me the potential to follow his example and become a leader in the fight against climate change at the state level,” Smith said.
Smith has also received the endorsements of former Congressmen Barney Frank and John Tierney; former state Senator and Lynn Mayor Thomas McGee; long-time Marblehead Select Board member Jackie Belf-Becker; Swampscott School Committee Chair Amy O’Connor; the Swampscott Education Association, the National Association of Government Employees, the Mass Retirees Association, and the Massachusetts Housing Coalition, among others.
