SAUGUS — The town canceled school on Tuesday, with a snowstorm bearing down on the region.

Jennifer Lefferts, a spokesperson for the district, announced the decision in an email around 5 p.m. Monday evening.

The National Weather Service warned that the Tuesday morning commute was likely to be “hazardous,” with 3 to 4 inches of snow set to fall in eastern Massachusetts.

Snow is expected to begin falling Monday evening, with the heaviest snowfall coming late Monday night into Tuesday morning.
