Lorynes Suriel, Brett O’Brien, and Justin Jennings have had quite the seasons, and they’re not done yet as the New Balance Nationals await.
Suriel’s best shot put throw of the season was 37’1″, resulting in her being the Catholic Central League (CCL) champion in the event. She also placed third at the Division IV championship and 11th at All-States.
In his fourth year of track, O’Brien is going to Nationals for the first time in his career with a high jump of 6 ‘1″. CCL Most Valuable Player is a “jack of all trades” according to head coach Tristan Smith.
“In addition to high jump, he excels in the hurdles, 300 meter, long jump, and as a part of the 4×400 meter relay team,” Smith said. “He holds marks in the top three of each of those events in school history.”
Jennings qualified in the freshman division of the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.83, and will run in the 60-meter dash at Nationals.
“Obviously, I am very proud of all three of these athletes and I’m overjoyed that we will be represented on the national stage. To have someone qualify in a running, jumping, and throwing event shows a lot about our program’s well-roundedness and devotion to making every single athlete better.”
“I’d like to give a special shoutout to my assistant coaches Themo Liakopoulos, Mark D’Amico, and Calie Bridges for making this possible, as well as Athletic Director Jeff Newhall.”
