You know what I’ve been thinking? I’ve been watching high school hockey since eighth grade, and St. Mary’s Anthony Palmer put on the best display of goaltending I’ve ever seen on Sunday. Not only did the Lynnfield native, and freshman, record 36 saves against Catholic Memorial – an incredibly-skilled team which often passes up good shots for great ones – but he did it in highlight-reel fashion. With his impressive side-to-side movements and timely glove, Palmer had Knights’ players skating away with their heads down on multiple occasions. That said, none were better than when Palmer went right to left to record a stick-save on a wraparound attempt in the first period. The play was followed by a roar from the St. Mary’s faithful, and without Palmer, Catholic Memorial’s 39-shot performance would have led to a different final score (the Knights won just 3-0). To Palmer, who’s also a Catholic Central League All-Star, good week.
