If you like hitting then you didn’t want to miss Lynnfield’s 13-11 win over East Boston. The Pioneers traveled to the Jets’ stadium and got off to a flying start. Lynnfield led 7-0 and 11-4 at one stage during the game. East Boston stormed back to tie the game at 11. In the sixth inning, Catie Kampersal hit a grand slam. Fast forward to the top of the seventh, Kampersal again homered, this time a two-run home run. Ava Gamache had two hits including a two-run home run while also scoring three runs for Lynnfield’s first win of the season.

The Rams start the season with a win on the road. Senior captain Kevin Whalen pitched 6 1⁄3 innings, striking out nine and only allowing one run picking up the win. Head coach Mike Zukowski said Almani Gerardo had a “big day at the plate,” going 3 for 4 including four RBIs.

The scoreline looks favorable for the Bulldogs, however, that wasn’t the case in the third inning when they allowed six runs, going behind 6-2. The Bulldogs didn’t quit and responded immediately in the fourth inning scoring six runs themselves, highlighted by a home run from Brendan Falasca. Jariel Benzan was 2 for 3 on the day with an RBI and three runs.

Swampscott 5
Saugus 0
Swampscott got the best of Saugus Monday afternoon, winning all five matches. Swampscott’s Veronika Isagulyan got the Big Blue off to a good start, winning her match 6-1, 6-1. Later it was Anna Ratner and Victoria Quagrello who showed their chemistry on the court, winning their doubles match 6-0, 6-0.

The Rams lost a tough match against Revere on Monday. Classical started the match with first singles Linda Jallow picking up the win. The other win came from first doubles Diana Quach and Rachana Thach. Classical will look to pick up the win on Thursday when they travel to Medford.

Lynnfield were led by senior Jack Calichman, who recorded 10 assists on the day. Head coach Pat Lamusta said, “When Jack is on the field, good things happen.” Lamusta said it was important for the Pioneers to win the ground balls, and AJ Chiaradonna did exactly that with 5 of them. Michael Murphy scored six goals and Owen Considine chipped in with five goals. Ben Pimentel was solid in net with nine saves.

Although the Big Blue fell short, there were a few bright performers. Sophomore Liam Keaney scored two goals, Jason Codispoti also scored a brace, and freshman Jason Rothwell scored his first varsity goal. Head coach Geoff Beckett said sophomore Timmy Sheehan had a good game, despite the scoreline, with nine saves.

The Spartans dropped their opening game away at Hull. St. Mary’s played well but couldn’t get over the line in the end. The Spartans were led by Brady Ayles who scored three goals on the day. Caleb Racki, Joe Calder, and Jack Glowacz all contributed with a goal each.

The field events helped the Peabody boys defeat Saugus. Evan Bedard had a solid day, finishing first in the long jump and triple jump. Bedard jumped a 20’2 in the long jump and followed that up with a 39’2 in the triple jump. Alex Jackson threw a 50’3 in the shot put and a 134’2 in the discus.

The Tanners showed out on Monday behind some fast sprinters. Lindsey Wilson and Brianna Ewansiha placed first and second in the 110-meter race. Wilson ran an 18.4 and Ewansiha ran a 19.2. Savanna Vargas finished first in the 100 meters with a 12.5 time, while Marissa Simmons was right behind with a 13.4.

The inaugural men’s volleyball match occurred Monday afternoon. Unfortunately for the Rams they were beaten in all three sets 25-10; 25- 17; and 25-14. Despite the loss, head coach Chris LeBlanc said “there were a lot of positives to take from the game, heading into Thursday’s match against Salem.” Leblanc described senior setter Karim Chinchilla as the team’s “engine” who provided three assists and an ace.
